Search Engine Optimisation specialists should start to optimize their websites with Microsoft’s Bing in mind due to the rising number of online users the new search engine is currently attracting.

Particular attention should be paid to the recently published list of search terms which have been popular on Bing over the last 12 months. Like most major search engines, Bing found that celebrities and gossip has dominated their results list over the course of the last year.

Both Tiger Woods and Sandra Bullock who have both hit the headlines over the last 12 months because of scandals within their personal life, found themselves in the top three of the most searched terms on Bing’s results list. Topping the poll as the number one most searched term over the last year was reality TV star Kim Kardashian who has also been in the news because of a high profile break up and also family problems.

Search engine optimisation specialists looking to attract more traffic to their sites would do well to bear this information in mind in order to draw as much traffic to their websites as possible.

Stories about newsworthy celebrities and those involved in any kind of scandal attract the greatest amount of attention from online users, so SEO marketers should tailor their strategies accordingly for maximum impact on Bing.

A recent study by Google found that Welsh businesses in particular were lagging behind companies in the rest of the UK in terms of their web exposure with 25% of Welsh small to medium sized businesses without any kind of online presence.

Failing to have any kind of online platform in this digital age can be detrimental for businesses as more and more people are turning to the internet to seek out services. If your company doesn’t appear online, you’re effectively invisible to a large proportion of people.

Last year it was estimated that the internet economy contributed £10 billion to the UK economy, so those businesses who are failing to make their mark in the online world, really are missing a trick.

However there may be a solution. Small and medium sized businesses in Wales who may not have the expertise to create their own website can now enlist the service of a web rental company who will design and create a highly optimised website tailored to each individual company’s needs.

A Welsh company, Website Leasing Ltd based in Cardiff, are offering a convenient and affordable solution for those businesses which are at present, not on the internet radar. Website Leasing offer a complete website design service including highly optimised text content, logo design if required, link building, site layout plan and website optimisation to ensure the site ranks highly on all major search engines.

For many smaller businesses, it’s simply not economically viable to employ a team of web experts to design and constantly update their website, which is why Website Leasing is such an attractive idea. Businesses receive all the benefits of having a highly experienced web professionals working for them, without the expense.

As the recent figures revealed, those companies who don’t have a web presence could potentially be missing out on a huge amount of business. With the introduction of website leasing services, there’s now no excuse for businesses in the UK to go unnoticed online.

It may seem like every business, and especially those in your industry, are selling their products online via Google Shopping, ebay etc. However, just because they have an online store set up, it doesn’t mean it is successful as not all products, and especially not all services, lend themselves to online sales.

But even if your customers don’t buy your product online, they are still very likely to be doing their research on the web, and this is where your online presence is still very important. There are over 20 million people shopping online and if your product can be sold over the internet then consider setting up an online store.

However in the meantime, make sure your online presence is presenting the right image for your company first. Your website gives you the opportunity of a prime real estate position on the internet and it is a place where your customers can find you, your employees and potential employees can learn more about you and you may even attract investors.

If you are running your own business, you will know firsthand that more and more people are ‘time poor’ and are looking for quicker and easier ways to get what they need – now. This is why online sales are so popular, but it is also why you should put a professionally designed and managed website out there. The internet allows you to compete on a level playing field with your competitors, regardless of their size.

Just because a company employs a hundred staff, doesn’t mean one of those staff knows how to design and launch a professional and successful website, in fact they probably don’t. This is where you can take advantage of the confidence of your larger competitors that they have already cornered the market (remember the tortoise and the hare?) because when customers are researching your products at home, late at night in their PJs because this is the only free time they have, your professionally designed and easily navigable website will shine next to your competitor’s token website which includes just the basic details.

What do you think of the Google shopping results?

Keyword articles are uniformly seen as the only viable way to quickly build hundreds of one way links to your website and increase your traffic and in turn your search engine rankings. But while many websites believe that the importance is on quantity rather than quality are likely to take a fall.

The quantity of articles may appeal to some search engines, but often having fewer, good quality, professionally written and targeted SEO articles can be more effective than a barrage of irrelevant, poorly written and spelled articles. Well written articles will be noticed by article directories, bloggers and may even become part of an e-zine, giving your website, your product and your company an even wider reach.

Keyword articles may even be on topics which follow a series, or are just too much for one article. Therefore, keywords articles are often partially posted on websites, with the rest of their series or even just the rest of a longer article, linked back to the company’s website to ensure a visit by the reader if they want to finish what they were reading.

Lots of people have been laughed at, ridiculed and wondered about because of their unique ideas, radical theories or amazing inventions, however, without many of these unique people with their unique ideas, we wouldn’t have many of the inventions, beliefs and mod-cons we hold dear today.

So just keep this in mind when you ponder the unique idea of website leasing. Yes it sounds weird and no one else has done it before but that doesn’t mean it won’t work and it certainly doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea. For your business, or any business with a website, leasing a website is an option you should consider.

Doesn’t it make sense to lease a website with everything you need to be found on the web? You call in professionals to help you with many other parts of your business, right, designing and printing your business cards, looking after your payroll. Not to mention the fact that you probably also lease office space, maybe even a company vehicle, so in leasing a website you are simply combining two business practices you already use to run your business more effectively and more efficiently.

What do you put on your website? It seems like a big important question and many people’s solution is to answer it with big important information, but this is not necessarily what your website should be comprised of.

The answer to this question – as with any other which is asked about your business – depends on your business, no one else’s so don’t worry what other websites are doing or what your competitors are doing because they’re not you. I’m wondering, what do you think is important enough to publish on the internet and display on your website?

Do you have your company profile posted so your customers can get to know your ‘personality’? do you have staff profiles to show how qualified your company is, or do you stick to a products and services list and opt for the personal touch for the rest? Maybe you include case studies, or maybe this blog has made you wonder if your website has enough information, or too much? What have you found is the right balance of information?

Where does your company draw the line at with regards to website privacy? That may sound like an oxymoron seeing as how your website is on the internet for all the world to see – not very private at all. But the privacy issue comes in when you are considering what you are going to be showing to the whole world and what you’re not.

For example does your company have staff profiles on their website? Case studies with your clients’ details on them? Have you asked either of these groups of people whether they want their details on your website, let alone out there on the world wide web?

It is easy to be fooled into thinking that putting these sorts of personal – all be it professional – details on your website is not really the same as publishing them online. However, just because someone wasn’t looking for your site, doesn’t mean they can’t find your or your staff’s personal details so don’t be fooled into thinking that your customers and clients aren’t going to do anything dodgy with these details because they are by no means the only people looking at your site.

Pay per click can be a very cost effective marketing tool as your ads will only appear when people search the keywords you have chosen as most relevant to your website or business, and you will only be charged if these people click on your ad and are lead to your site.

This means that PPC advertising offers you only interested buyers because they know what they want – they just searched for it using your keywords – and there you are. They have already made the decision to buy or research the product and when they come across your advertising, they are already interested.

Then in getting these people to your site, it is your time to shine as you have already paid for their visit, you have to make sure it is worthwhile for them and for you. Getting customers to your website is often the hardest part but once you have interested buyers on your site, your website design and your products and services should do the rest, making back all of the money you have spent on PPC advertising.

I’m wondering how pay per click advertising can work. Pay per click right – so you pay for your company to be listed in the ‘sponsored links’ section or something similar of a search engine result which was run around the keywords that you have chosen.

So you have paid to be listed on these search engine results and people know that because most people know what PPC is. And this is why we see results from surveys of search engine users which show that from 60 – 70% of users will choose the natural results over the paid results – those pay per click ads.

So how does PPC work then – obviously because the other 30% of people who don’t choose the natural results are choosing the PPC results. Either because they don’t care that these people have paid for their ranking, or they don’t understand the complete concept of sponsored links, but it obviously does work for some businesses.
